Cassandra
In an invigorating way, theatre maker Annemarie de Bruijn revitalizes neglected figures from world literature, by utilizing her finely tuned sense of humor and her wide range of performance techniques.
By doing so, she seduces classical dramas to step out of their weighty historical context, in order to gain actuality and be meaningful again in a contemporary comedy.
Under direction of David Geysen, the Trojan psychic Cassandra arises from the Greek Tragedies. This woman who has ever foreseen everything in her life, but has never been taken seriously. As a result, she lost her whole family when the whole city of Troy was wiped by the famous Greek stratagem.
Even when nobody wanted to listen to her, Cassandra has relentlessly tried to protect everybody from adversity, inculding herself. Because of what she could foresee, she got around eminent danger, avoided indulgence and detained herself from love. Nonetheless, when all seems determined and she has nothing more to lose, she's rewarded with the great gift of love.
In this show, you'll be taken on a tragic yet comic quest in which Cassandra explores the reckless desire of mankind to make faulty decisions and the longing for acting on impulses and intuition. Features she has lost in her younger years. But above all, she tells about the undocumented story of her life, a life full of visions of the future.
